A while back, I stumbled upon a Hawaiian word, pono, that eventually snuck into my depleted, weary soul. Since then, I've learned (and continue to learn) that as we grow in self-awareness and nurture our well-being, we can escape the tug of the undertow. Pono is a powerful concept deeply woven and embedded in Hawaiian culture. Used as a guiding principle, to live with pono means to live in balance, alignment, and harmony with all things in life — with ourselves, others, God, and the world.
What does an ancient Hawaiian lifestyle have to do with our modern age? The short answer is "pono" orients us to the present moment. Pono is a lens through which to live our days with purpose and consciousness. When we live pono, all aspects of our well-being are in aligned, balanced, and harmonious states. The beauty of pono is that we don't have to be in Hawai'i to embody its principles — pono can be practiced anytime, anywhere.
There’s no set arrival point, no final destination, and no linear path when it comes to well-being. It’s a lifelong journey.
